I had 4 amazingly motivating (and easy easy) runs last week for a total mileage of 14.5 miles.
This week? Different story.
Monday I had a terrible migraine, so I headed home from work around 11:00am and went to bed. I didn't get up until around 4pm, and definitely was not in any shape to attempt a 3 mile run.
Yesterday was a speed work day. I had to run it on my lunch hour, by myself since I had a bunch of meetings yesterday/last night. I don't know how else to describe it besides........... utter torture.
Before I started running on a regular basis, I was much more comfortable on a treadmill. After all, my gym has TVs attached to the treadmills. Who wouldn't love that?! Over time, I gravitated to outdoor running, mostly because it was harder. My goal was to be able to run in a 5k, and just because it was easy on the treadmill, doesn't mean its easy outdoors.
Eventually, the tables turned. Now I can run 4+ miles outside with ease, but knocking out more than 1mile on the treadmill literally kills me. Its not that I'm running faster.... so what gives?
Tonight I have a 5 mile run. I might be forced to run it on a treadmill, and the thought of that terrifies me.
I can't keep freaking out about this. There are going to be lots of times that I need to use the treadmill and I cant keep being so negative about it. So, starting today, I'm going to suck it up and make amends with the treadmill. Much like my foray into outdoor running, the more you do something, the easier it becomes....And I enjoy a challenge.
I guess this whole half marathon training thing can't be a piece of cake, eh?
