This morning, as part of our training, S. and I took part in a 5k.
I wasn't sure how well I would do. Yesterday, our 12 mile run didn't go so well... Then, last night I had an amazing time at the John Mayer concert. I didn't make it home until about 1:15, so by the time I fell asleep it was probably 2am.
6 am came very early this morning! I met S. at 7am and we made our way to the race. Our goal was to finish in 30 minutes. We were a little concerned because the wind was blowing like crazy again and we were not sure what part of the course would feel it the most.
I set my garmin for our distance and goal time and we started the race at 8am. We started off pretty face, but settled into a good pace. Mile one went by fairly quickly. It was helpful to have my Garmin. I kept an eye on our pace to make sure we didn't go slower than 9:45 at any given time. This was super helpful!
Near the 1.3 - 1.5mile we took a curve and the wind started hitting us right in the chest. I ignored it and powered through S and I motivated each other every step of the way. When I was falling back, she kept pace and I sped up and vice versa.
I got very very tired as we hit the 2.5mi mark. Once again the wind was hitting us, but I knew we had a good chance of hitting our time goal, so I pushed on. We neared the finish line and saw the timer read 29:47...I looked at S. and yelled "GO!" and we both sprinted across the finish line at 29:53! That means we ran a 9:38mi average. Oh yes, PERSONAL RECORD! (I never claimed to be fast, but its still exciting to get a PR)
S. and I tied for 3rd place in our age group! It listed me as 3 and her as 4, but I know we crossed at the same time! I'm happy to share this accomplishment with her. We were totally proud of this great accomplishment.
21 days to go!
