I was so elated to have reached my time goal at the RSC 5k. But, by Sunday afternoon, I was absolutely exhausted. My body ached terribly.
I was so exhausted and my legs felt so terrible that I decided to take some ibuprofen and lay down for a while. I woke up 2 hours later, feeling worse than I did when I passed out!
I figured that the aching and tiredness in my legs would pass soon enough. I woke up on Monday feeling a little better, but still like I had lead feet. I just assumed they were tired from peak mileage week. I got in 26 miles last week, so it made sense for my legs to be worn out.
Monday evening I decided to skip the run to keep from hurting myself.
Tuesday I got home, changed and grabbed the dog to head out for a short, easy run. I planned on hitting at least 3 miles.
I started off at a very easy, modest pace. Every step I took felt like I was jamming my feet into the pavement and my quads (especially the left one) were screaming. I kept it up for about .56mi and stopped for a second. I tried giving myself a pep talk, as i've become so good at.... "Come on Meg, you got this... just another mile and you can turn around."
Off I went again and the pain came right back. I don't know if it hurt really bad or if i was just extra irritable and whiny, but I stopped again at .75mi and turned around. Whatever pain I was feeling in my quad was not normal and with 18 days until the Half Marathon, I was not going to push it and make it worse.
I whimpered all the way back to the car, feeling defeated. The dog however, had a blast.
My impression from the pain is that its maybe a minor strain. It doesn't bother me when I walk, but I can feel it twinge when I go down the stairs.
I didn't even attempt a run today. Especially since today was scheduled for speedwork. Think its best to listen to my body this time. While I have missed more training sessions than I would have liked due to shin splints or sickness, I still know I can complete 13.1 no matter how long it takes me.
