Running Safety/ Location Sharing

I was super excited when I saw that dailymile.com now has Garmin Sync available in beta. Right now, my Garmin uploads to my computer when I plug it in, so I can analyze run data down to the smallest detail (i promise, I'm not that crazy though.)

With Garmin Sync you can hit a "Sync Workout" button and it will grab the info from your run data on your Garmin software and log the detail on dailymile.com. I was excited to try it out, because this is a super easy way to keep up with my training log.  I hit sync and my latest workout popped up on the screen. I added my workout comments and posted the workout, but noticed something that concerned me.... Since my Garmin is a GPS, it logs all my running routes and I can then look at them on my desktop.

Anyway, I hit the button to post my workout and noticed that right there, for the world to see, was my exact route. I looked and looked around and there was no way to delete the route or make it private.

Personally, I'd like to make life a little more difficult for any stalkers I may have, so I decided that Garmin Sync is off limits until there are some privacy options put into place, like on Garmin Connect.

Many times, I don't think people, runners especially realize how important it is to take safety precautions. Here's a link to one of my favorite blogs - "Living Life." Jenn posted a great article that highlights a lot of great info about running safety.

Enjoy, and be safe!
